We are committed to protecting your personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and the Data Protection Acts 1988–2018 as applicable in Ireland.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through the NearUNow mobile application and website (nearunow.ie), how we use it, and your rights regarding it.

2. What Data We Collect
2.1 Consumer Users
- Location data — your GPS coordinates, collected only while using the app, to show nearby appointment slots within your chosen radius (default 8 km). Location is processed on-device and is not stored on our servers.
- Device information — device type and operating system version, collected automatically for app stability purposes.
- Consumers do not need to create an account. No name, email address, or phone number is collected from consumer users.
2.2 Business Users
- Name — the name of the business owner or account holder.
- Email address — used for account creation and authentication.
- Phone number — displayed publicly on appointment slot listings so consumers can call to book.
- Business details — business name, service category, and town/location.
- Location (latitude & longitude) — used to place your business in proximity searches.
- Appointment slot data — the date, time, and category of availability slots you post.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use collected data for the following purposes:
- To provide the core NearUNow service — showing consumers nearby available slots and enabling businesses to post availability.
- To authenticate business user accounts securely.
- To display business phone numbers so consumers can call directly.
- To calculate distances between consumers and available slots.
- To send push notifications about nearby slots (only if you explicitly grant notification permission on your device).
- To operate, maintain, and improve the app and our services.
- To comply with our legal obligations under Irish and EU law.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising, behavioural tracking, or profiling.
4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
- Contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b)) — processing your business account data is necessary to provide the NearUNow service you have signed up for.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — using location data and device information to improve app functionality and security.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — push notifications are only sent where you have explicitly granted permission. You may withdraw this consent at any time in your device settings.
5. Data Storage and Security
All data is stored securely using Supabase, a third-party backend-as-a-service platform. Supabase stores data on servers located within the European Economic Area (EEA). Data is encrypted in transit using TLS and encrypted at rest.
We implement appropriate technical and organisational security measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. For more information on Supabase's data practices, see supabase.com/privacy.
6. Data Retention
- Appointment slots — automatically removed or marked inactive after the slot time has passed.
- Business account data — retained for as long as the account is active. Upon account deletion, your personal data is removed within 30 days, except where required by law.
- Consumer location data — not stored on our servers. Location is used only to query nearby slots in real time.
7. Sharing of Data
We share data only in the following limited circumstances:
- Supabase (infrastructure provider) — your data is stored and processed on Supabase infrastructure as described above.
- Apple / Google (push notifications) — device push tokens are shared with Apple APNs and Google FCM solely for delivering notifications you have opted in to.
- Legal obligations — we may disclose data to comply with a legal obligation, court order, or request from a competent authority.
Business phone numbers are displayed publicly within the app to enable the call-to-book functionality.
8. Your Rights Under GDPR
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erasure — ask us to delete your data ("right to be forgotten").
- Restriction — ask us to restrict how we process your data.
- Portability — request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.

9. Cookies and Tracking
The NearUNow mobile app does not use cookies. The NearUNow website may use essential cookies required for basic site functionality. No third-party advertising or tracking cookies are used.
10. Children's Privacy
NearUNow is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately at info@nearunow.ie.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Business users will be notified of material changes via email or an in-app notification. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of NearUNow after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
